Payment methods in Myanmar

One of Myanmar's most impactful fintech services, Wave Money's agent network model has brought financial access to remote areas where banking infrastructure is absent. The WavePay app allows transfers, bill payments, and merchant payments. It has been recognized for its role in financial inclusion.

Myanmar's national interoperable QR payment system launched on February 27, 2025 by the State Administration Council. MMQR connects 12 platforms including AYA Pay, KBZ Pay, Wave Money, OK Dollar, CB Pay, UAB Pay, A+ Wallet, CTZ Pay, Yoma, Trusty, Zego, and Mpitesan. It aims to unify Myanmar's fragmented mobile payment ecosystem.

Myanmar's national domestic card network, supporting debit card transactions at ATMs and POS terminals. MPU cards are issued by most Myanmar banks and are the primary card scheme for domestic transactions given the limited acceptance of international cards.

It represents a comprehensive digital ecosystem serving millions of users and is connected to the MMQR network.
